Youth empowerment in Taita Taveta
The National Government in conjunction with the County Government of Taita Taveta have led youth in sessions of peacebuilding, mentoring, youth leadership and entrepreneurship with the end game being the creation of an innovation hub in the County.
Mukhtar A. Ogle, EBS, OGW, Secretary, Strategic Initiatives, Executive Office of the President told the youth that this would be a forward-thinking entity set to match with future digitized trends.
“ The hub is going to capture issues of digital elements for self-sustenance. This will be a remedy for the youthful populace heavily relying on handouts from politicians. The centre will impart knowledge on investment, self-realisation, self-esteem and mental health, “ Dr Ogle addressed his youthful audience drawn from the Taita Taveta County at the Voi Youth Centre.
He challenged the youth to revolutionise their selves, distil their values and ideas while putting their practical knowledge into action.
“ A successful innovation hub has outreach at the grassroots level for purposes of inclusivity in solution provision. We will harness collective capabilities from all marginalised demographics. No one in Taita Taveta will be left behind as those at the village level should expect to be given a position to spur development by giving unique ideas to be transformed into practical action,” Mr Ogle remarked.
He noted how a digital hub need not be physical but rather this could be in the form of a digital device like a laptop or even a smartphone.
“ In the spirit of inclusion the hub will strive to be a model in Kenya, build a gate to connect with members of the community, harness innovations at ward level, be piloted in rural areas, be ran on responsive ideology and transformation while closing the gender gaps,” Mr Ogle told the eager youthful participants.
He advised how all activities should be focused on the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
Mr Ogle expressed the importance of Artificial Intelligence AI as this would help initiate the growth of the Taita Taveta County economy, stimulate job creation and livelihoods.
“ Through predictive analysis, the health sector would be improved through speedy diagnosis and treatment of diseases like cancer,” he said.
Director Gender and Social Services Wallace Mwaluma noted that replication of the creation of an innovative hub is a solution driven move to  ensure self-reliance among the youthful demographics, as it is built on the foundations of thriving youth innovations and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Kenya.
Mr Mwaluma assured of a data-driven approach when dealing with the hub in a bid to bring solutions hence create fertile conditions for sustainable development.
Mr Ogle in his concluding remarks advised, “ The most important enterprise in your life is your own life. Action your ideas.”
