Governor Mwadime, accompanied by Taveta MP Hon. John Bwire and other local leaders, launched the construction of a KES 263 million road project in Voi.
The road, connecting Desert Rose, Mwakingali Primary, Moi Hospital, Aseko, and Mlekenyi, is funded by the World Bank through the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP) Phase 2 in partnership with the county government.
During the launch, County Executive Committee Member for Infrastructure, Arch. CPA. Martin Tairo, criticized the diversion of devolution funds back to the national government, a practice he said hampers the execution of devolved functions.
“The road we are launching today is 2.7 kilometers and costs a total of KES 263 million. Meanwhile, the county’s entire approved budget for roads is only KES 100 million. This is barely enough to carry out any meaningful road maintenance work. Lawmakers must be defenders of devolution and support more funds coming to counties.” Tairo said.
