County Government of Taita Taveta spearheads forum on road safety
The County Government of Taita Taveta has met with members of the Kenya Police Service and boda boda operators in Voi Sub County in a bid to ensure road safety.
Representing H.E. Governor Granton Samboja, Director Gender and Social Services Wallace Mwaluma called on operators to obey traffic signs while adhering to speed limits in a bid to reduce the number of road accidents.
“ Reduce speed at bumps, at zebra crossings and school vicinities for maximum safety, “ Mr Mwaluma reiterated.
OCS  Ayub Shikwete advised the riders to follow safety regulations and the law at all times by wearing a reflector, own 2 helmets where one would be worn by the passenger.
“ Always have your driving license with you. New boda boda operators need to be vetted by chosen chairmen. Register with NHIF in a bid to access medical services in case of an accident,” OCS added.
Enforcement Officer Alfred Kasenge affirmed that parking should only be done at designated areas.
Mr Mwaluma advised boda boda youth operators to join groups and take advantage of youth kitties disbursed every fiscal year.
“ Have a saving culture. Join Saccos for personal growth and to boost your livelihoods. This is a male-dominated sector, women also ought to join this industry to ensure inclusivity, “ Mr Mwaluma concluded.
