Officers from the County Department of Cooperatives Development led by Executive Committee Member Daniel Makoko and Chief Officer Christine Mwakera attending a 5 days training Supported and funded by RTI International under the KCDMS Activity – Feed the Future Programme by the USAID.

The objective of the one week capacity building is to evolve cooperative thought and practice through enhancing participants’ understanding of contemporary issues in cooperative thought and practice.

The aspect of Governance in co-operatives is also an objective under this training where the target audience will be equipped with knowledge on understanding of cooperative governance tools, their design, development and implementation.

According to Prof. Isaac Nyamongo the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of cooperatives development research and innovation at the Cooperative University Kenya, participants will also get knowledge on cooperative development and promotion.

“This will enhance participants with understanding of issues and mechanisms of cooperative development”. He has said.

With more than 150 cooperatives in Taita Taveta county, the department of Cooperatives is optimistic that the training will address the challenge of tools and mechanisms for financial control in cooperatives.

“We look forward to getting knowledge and skills for application of tools and mechanisms for financial control in cooperatives. Currently we have a challenge with auditing of county cooperatives and this will assist in finding a solution”. CECM Makoko has said.
