The County Government of Taita Taveta, KeNHA & KERRA plan mitigation measures for Disruptions from expected El Nino rains

Officials drawn from Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) and County Government of TaitaTaveta have today held a consultative meeting to come up with mitigation measures for the expected disruptions that may arise due to the expected El Nino rains.
Speaking at Voi Public Works offices, CECM in charge of Roads, Arch. Martin Tairo, said the synergy between the different road agencies working within Taita Taveta County is key in ensuring that disruptions are minimised.
“We have identified problematic areas and we are going to move with speed to open drainage channels and unblock culverts and other water ways to ensure free flow of water during the rains to reduce incidences of flooding.”
Sup. Engineer from KeNHA Kofa Kase said together they will continue engaging even beyond the aforementioned season, as this will help in making sure the region has standard roads.
His sentiments were echoed by Eng. Joshua Bii from KURA and his counterpart Shem Omar from KERRA, who further said they have identified all areas that are adversely affected during the rainy season, rendering the roads impassable.
Through the leadership of H.E Governor Andrew Mwadime Wakujaa, the Department of Public Works has put modalities in place, including having all roadwork machinery operational.
In attendance were the Department’s Chief Officer Leonard Kiute, and Director Albert Mwatiriri.
