


County Government sign MOU with University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB)
by adminuniversity of Bultimore, Education, mouIn its bid to establish meaningful and efficient service delivery to its citizens, the County Government of Taita Taveta has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a working partnership with the University of Maryland , Baltimore to improve health outcomes in specified areas of Health Sector in the County.
In a brief ceremony held at the Governors boardroom and officiated by H.E the Deputy Governor, Mary Ndiga Kibuka, the University’s Country Director,Prof. Sylvia Ojoo stated that the University will support the County’s efforts in improving its health systems particularly in addressing communicable diseases like HIV/AIDS, TB,among other infectious diseases.Other areas of focus will include training and education programs.
The County will also according to the MoU facilitate the University by allowing its personel to use its health facilities for Medical Research purposes as well as provide policy and strategic direction on implimentation of activities agreed upon by the two parties.
Speaking at the same function, the Deputy Governor expressed his optimism that the MoU will provide a formal framework through which the University can support the County Government in its efforts of improving and delivering quality services in the health sector.
“With the MoU inforce and through collaborative, funded work on specific projects, we are certain that we’ll improve the health sector in our County” asserted the Deputy Governor.
She added that the County Government will execute its mandate as stipulated in the MoU to improve health care for the benefit of the residents.
The ceremony was also attended by the County Secretary Mr. Patrick Meso, CEC incharge of Health Services, Hon. Gifton Mkaya, the CEC incharge of Finance, Dr. Vincent Masawi, Senior Technical Adviser, Universtiy of Maryland Baltimore, Dr Christinah Mwachari among others.
